I made a bra that shoots sparks for self-defense
I made a brassiere that shoots hot sparks whenever someone tries to touch me instead of burning my bra. The bra has ferrocerium rods which produce hot sparks (temperatures of 3,315 °C) when striking the rod with dc motors outfitted with steel cutting wheels. It’s definitely one of my favorite projects ~
Here is how I made it:
Parts:
Sheet metal (26G, galvanized)
4” Mirrors (x 2)
Ferrocerium rods (x 2)
DC Motors (x 2)
Shaft Collar Clamps (x 2)
Steel cutting wheels (x 4)
2” long 3M screw (X 2)
Vibration resistant 3M washers
Suspenders
Velcro tape, zip ties, pop rivets
The Metal Bra
To make the metal boob shield I first traced out the shape onto the sheet metal - I really wanted it to look like a bra not just a shield.
Then, I cut them out with my metal shears. I did three main shapes - one for each boob and one middle part to join them together. I punched and drilled holes where I was planning to rivet the pieces together with the rivet gun. Then, to make it more bra like, I bent the shield to match my curves.
Then, I made metal mounts for the ferrocerium rods so they could have a little bounce and get bigger sparks. I cut, bent, and riveted these mounts to the bra and drilled holes so I could fasten the rods with the long screw.
I also made an L bracket and riveted it to the bra to mount the motors. I added two holes to the bracket so I could just zip tie them on.
I was inspired by Gaga’s bra and I noticed that hers had mirrors in the back so I put a mirror on each boob using the velcro. This is to reflect the sparks and make the bra even more of a spectacle.
The Spark System
I made a simple circuit to connect the motors to a button and a 9V battery.
I mounted two cutting disks with a washer in between to each motor. So when I push the button the motors with the cutting disks spin. I zip tied the motors into place so the wheels were against the ferrocerium rods.
Aaaand that’s it - I used suspenders as straps and it became a bra.
Okay love you byeeeeeee ~
